Are you an extended reality (XR) enthusiast, researcher, or designer/developer who has a virtual, augmented, mixed reality (VR/AR/MR) or other XR application that you would like to demonstrate at this year's HFES ASPIRE meeting? If so, then this is the event for you!

Submit your demo description no later than 5:00PM EST Monday, February 9, 2026 – Read more below!

What: The XR Showcase will be an alternative session for HF students, faculty, practitioners, professionals, and designer/developers to showcase state-of-the-art XR applications. This featured session has been growing yearly since the "Me and My VE" demos of 2020.

Overview of the session: This is an interactive session. It is much like an interactive poster session but with XR applications. The session will begin with each presenter briefly introducing (<2 mins) their application. Once this lightning round of introductions is finished, audience members will be free to move around the room and interact with all the demonstrations. Last year's session included demonstrations from academia, industry, and government.

What is required: If you are interested in participating in this showcase, please send an email (email subject: "XR Showcase 2026 submission") stating your interest and a brief written description of the XR application you would like to demonstrate as an attachment (word document) to kbchen2@ncsu.edu by 5:00PM EST Monday, February 9, 2026. You will be notified by Thursday, February 12, 2025 if your XR Showcase submission is accepted.

Your written description in a word document should include the following:

    • One (1) paragraph describing the application you plan to demonstrate. Mention if it is VR or MR / AR. Mention the specific technology you will use (an HMD, a monitor, something else?). Briefly mention how a user would interact with your VR/MR app.

    • At most two (2) paragraphs describing your VR/MR app's contribution to human factors research (e.g., training and education, test and validation practices, design and planning exercises, and human factors-oriented research studies, etc.). For instance, why should HFES consider your app, and why is it important?

    • Specify any equipment you plan to bring to support the demonstration (Video / Audio / Computing requirements to support your demonstration). This could be bullet points. We will use this to request additional tech / infrastructure (e.g., electrical power), as necessary.

    • A picture of the environment (e.g., virtual scenario) or application.

If you have any questions, or want to talk about the event, please contact Karen Chen (kbchen2@ncsu.edu) or the other session organizers listed below. You can also look at last year's proceedings to learn about the submission.

We look forward to your submissions!
