    Dear members of the XR Technical Group,

    My name is Karen Chen, and I would like to introduce myself as I campaign for the XRTG Vice Program Chair. I am currently a faculty member (link to bio and lab) in the Fitts Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at North Carolina State University. I have been a member of HFES since I was a graduate student (2012), and I have been a member and taken on officer roles in the student chapter. I either have presented in the lecture format or took part in the XR Showcase every year at HFES.

    My motivation to run for the XRTG Vice Program Chair comes from my current small-scale contribution to the TG, which has been predominantly presenting my (lab's) work at the XR track at HFES and serving as session chairs. The XRTG has really grown and evolved, and there are many types of research and studies involve XR that should be promoted as exciting work through this venue. As a member of the TG and researcher in XR, I am hoping to make an impact beyond the personal level (e.g, only being a presenter or a participant). To realize this goal, I am stepping up to lead this year's XR Showcase (2025) and run for the XRTG Vice Program Chair to promote XR research.

    I am determined to contribute to the TG by:

    • Shadowing and assisting the Technical Program Chair to learn about the solicitation and review process;
    • Advertising conference paper submissions through multiple avenues (faculty listservs, personal contacts, professional social media) to increase interests and submissions to the XRTG;
    • Serving on the Technical Group Program Chair's committee;
    • Developing and organizing the TG's technical program.

    Leveraging my experience as the poster committee chair for the IISE Applied Ergonomics Conference from the past three years, I am confident that my abilities will be applicable to the XRTG Vice Program Chair role. Thank you for your consideration, and I would be happy to answer any questions (kbchen2@ncsu.edu).

    -Karen
