UXR team is growing and we're looking to hire a
TVC researcher for an approximately
9-month contract to conduct a variety of research (e.g., interviews, usability testings, surveys) for our smart-home and WiFi-connected products (e.g., smart speakers, displays, laptops, doorbells, etc.). Experience with hardware and Human Factors research is a plus.
The team is based in Mountain View, CA and requires researchers to co-locate in a similar area for in-person research in our access-restricted research lab.

Google Nest, Hardware UX Research
Location: Mountain View, CA
Project Overview:We follow a simple but vital premise in the User Experience group: "Focus on the user and all else will follow." Nested in the Hardware team, the Google Nest team is a critical driving force behind gathering insights and using them to inspire and inform design across all smart home and WiFi-connected products. We are a multi-disciplinary team of interaction designers, industrial designers, user researchers, and human factors experts, who collaborate closely with each other and with Engineering and Product Management to create innovative, usable, great-looking products that people love to use.
Top daily responsibilities:● Scoping research questions and getting alignment from cross functional team
● Planning research activities
● Designing study protocol
● Creating highlight videos
● Analyzing and interpreting both qualitative and quantitative data
● Creating findings and recommendation reports
Required Skills:● B.A./B.S. or M.A./M.S. in HCI, Human Factors, Cognitive Psychology, HCI or other fields emphasizing human behavior
● 1-3 years of work experience in an applied research setting, preferably with hardware
● Strong understanding of strengths and shortcomings of different quantitative and statistical methods as well as qualitative and experimental research methods, including when and how to apply them during each phase of the product development process
● Deep interest and aptitude in product development
● Proven ability to multitask and manage multiple projects-can work independently, prioritizing time between multiple projects and be flexible by adapting to changing schedules and different projects
● Experience converting research findings into actionable insights for product design
● Technical experience (e.g., ability to translate technical concepts into non-technical terms and vice versa, able to troubleshoot an issue with little guidance and direction)
● Excellent problem-solving capabilities and superior analytical skills
● Excellent observational, interpersonal, oral and written communication, and collaboration skills; ability to interact with diverse technical and non-technical groups
● Basic working knowledge of statistics (Python, R, or other statistical packages)
Nice to have:● Expertise in Human Factors research
● Strong visual storytelling skills
