The XRTG is excited to highlight summer activities led by XRTG Vice Chair, Dr. Karen Chen. The students interacted with extended reality technologies and learned about HFE principles. The program highlights how well immersive tech can positively impact learning and engagement!
The Virtual and Augmented Reality Laboratory at North Carolina State University, directed by Dr. Karen Chen, hosts activities for K-12 students every summer. This year, the lab hosted three interactive extended reality (XR) activities for four groups of K-12 students, where the attendees embodied in an immersive Cave Automatic Virtual Environment (CAVE) to learn about an important yet abstract concept that pervades science: size and scale. From astronomical entities such as stars to nanoscopic entities such as an insulin molecule, learners interacted with 3D scientific virtual objects and learned about their differences in order of magnitude.
