How do I apply?
Please send the following materials as a single PDF to PPTG Chair Ellemieke van Doorn (ellemieke.vandoorn@ns.nl) by May 1st, 2025.
1. A structured proposal, including the following sections:
• Background and objectives
• Project description
• A transparency & open science statement explaining A) whether and how research methods will be preregistered, and B) whether and how materials, scripts, and/or data generated by the research will be shared.
• A budget and justification specifying how awarded funds will be used
• Cited references
The proposal should be no longer than 3 pages (double-spaced, 1-inch margins, 12-point font), excluding the budget, budget justification, and references. Proposals that do not adhere these content and formatting requirements will not receive consideration.
2. A signed letter of support (one page max) from the student's advisor.
What happens if I receive the funding?
Grant awardees are expected to inform the technical group of their research outcomes. This may be completed though submitting a research paper to the annual meeting of the following year, presenting the findings at a webinar or annual business meeting hosted by the PPTG, or submitting a final report to the PPTG officers. A submission to the annual meeting is highly preferred. The student's advisor may present the work at the annual meeting should the student be unable to attend.
Grant awardees under the supervision of a PPTG member who are not yet a PPTG member themselves are expected to become a PPTG member. The $7 that this costs may be paid from the amount won.
Awardees are also expected to acknowledge the funding in any outcomes of the work, such as publications or presentations. Typically, the chair of the PPTG and the student will stay in close contact to ensure these requirements are met throughout the lifespan of the project.
