I am working to transition into human factors, bringing my experience from aerospace equipment evaluation, aircrew training, human performance and clinical research to evaluate tools and processes. My goal is to transition in healthcare or medical device human factors.
Across defense, healthcare, and clinical research settings, I've led equipment evaluation programs for critical life safety equipment and sensors for NASA and DoD, physiological and cognitive performance research with aircrew and firefighters, developed and evaluated equipment workflows for human subjects research programs, and contributed to early-stage robotics research focused on restoring motor function in stroke survivors.
Having worked extensively with military aircrew end-users, I understand the critical roles of usability, reliability, and safety in product development.
Notable programs and contributions:
-Led or supported life support system evaluation on five aircraft and one spacecraft including the F-18, F-35, NASA X-59, and T-6, and trained NASA and military aircrew to breathe properly at 63,000 ft and perform during high acceleration flight maneuvers
-Evaluated wearable sensors and medical monitoring equipment for accuracy and reliability in operational aircraft environments, identifying algorithm inconsistencies that affected measurement validity under flight conditions
-Contributed to NASA standards development for CO2 clearance testing in next-generation commercial spacesuits
-Coordinated rehabilitation robotics research evaluating wearable devices for stroke motor recovery, developing standardized user interaction protocols
-Built out VA pulmonary mechanics and function test labs investigating veterans' unexplained shortness of breath and helping drive new research into potential treatments
