CEDM International Annual Meeting Call for Proposals:  Deadline

Submissions for this year's HFES annual meeting are right around the corner, with a deadline of February 13th, 2025. The Cognitive Engineering and Decision-Making Technical Group (CEDM-TG) of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society is focused on the study of human decision making and cognition and the application of this knowledge to the design and development of systems and training programs in a wide variety of domains.

CEDM International Annual Meeting Call for Proposals:  Authors & Formats

We're looking for submissions from all typical HFES audiences: academics, researchers, practitioners, industry, and government/military professionals. We also welcome proposals for all formats: Lecture format, discussion panels or invited symposia, demonstrations, posters, workshops, and alternative formats.

CEDM International Annual Meeting Call for Proposals:  Suggested Topics & Keywords

We'd like to call out these areas of interest for proposal submissions especially, but if in doubt, please submit your work:

    • Descriptive views of how individuals, intelligent systems, human teams, and/or human-AI teams perform decision making and cognitive activities (including individual & shared perception, situation conception and problem definition through choice of action) given real-world situations, goals and constraints.
    • Models, processes, and characteristics of human decision making and cognition, alone and in conjunction with other individuals and/or with intelligent systems.
    • Experienced and inexperienced decision makers.
    • Task settings involving ill-structured problems, uncertainty, dynamic environments, complex systems, time stress, risk, multiple, changing goals, multiple individuals, intelligent systems, and organizational influences.
    • Technologies for assisting, modifying or supplanting human decision making.
    • Training strategies and programs for influencing or assisting human decision making and cognitive tasks.
    • Cognitive engineering and decision-making with respect to calibrated trust assessment of contributions from assistive intelligent systems.

2025 CEDM keywords are:  decision (aids, making, support, principles), naturalistic studies, joint cognitive systems, complex adaptive systems, teams/collaboration/organization

If you don't see your preferred keywords here, please feel free to contact us and discuss your topic.

CEDM International Annual Meeting Call for Proposals:  Where to Submit

You can submit your work to the Aspire International Annual Meeting Call for Submissions page. Authors will be asked to select keywords and optionally select a TG of preference. The CEDM TG will review submissions that are deemed relevant based on indicated keywords and, if you indicated one, your TG preference. As in the past, all submissions will receive a multi-person peer review.

CEDM International Annual Meeting Call for Proposals:  About CEDM TG

The CEDM-TG was formed to provide an integrated forum within the HFES for bringing together relevant research on cognitive engineering and human decision making and the development of systems for supporting decision making and cognition in a wide variety of areas.

§   To encourage research on human cognition and decision making and its application to the design of systems and training programs.

§   To disseminate information, promote technical interchange and encourage education on cognitive engineering and decision making.

§   To promote growth in the area of cognitive engineering and decision making research within the human factors profession.

We look forward to your submissions and hope to see you in Chicago later this year!
