Lightening Talk Title: "Trading Degrees of Freedom: User Control in Pens, GenAI, and AVs"
Abstract: This talk explores how the technology development from other domain informs user control in automation design. The discussion covers how technology trades degrees of freedom - expanding, eliminating, or resolving them - and applies these lessons to automated systems to better balance efficiency, user agency, and system resilience.
Speaker Bio: Vianney Renata is a 3rd year PhD student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her main research interest is uncertainty communication and resolution in human-automation interaction. She holds a B.Eng. in Mechanical Engineering from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore and had spent 3.5 years as a Strategic Industrial Engineer in Micron Technology.
