STG Officers 2026
We're incredibly excited to announce the new leadership team for the 2025-2026 term. Each officer brings a passion for human-centered design and sustainable innovation, and we're looking forward to the impact they'll make this year. Please join me in congratulating the new officers of the Sustainability Technical Group (STG)!
Chair - Tommy Tran, Arizona State University
Tommy Tran holds a Master's degree in Human Factors and Ergonomics (HFE) from San Jose State University and is now completing his Ph.D. at Arizona State University. He brings a strong professional background in HFE, having formerly interned at NASA as a Human Factors Researcher and worked at NVIDIA as a Data Analyst. His research explores cybersecurity, first response training, UAV innovation, and healthcare.
Vice Chair - AJ Diokno, Rice University
AJ Diokno is a 4th-year Ph.D. student at Rice University in the Human-Computer Interaction and Human Factors program. She is an experienced human systems engineer with 5+ years spanning the aviation, aerospace, healthcare, and technology industries. She has completed four internships at NASA and served as a project manager for the NASA SUITS program. Her current research focuses on the usability of electronic ballot marking devices, with several conference papers published in this area.
Program Chair - Carryl Baldwin, Wichita State University
Carryl Baldwin is a Distinguished Professor of Aging, Director of the Regional Institute of Aging, and Coordinator of the Human Factors program at Wichita State University, with over 25 years of experience in the field of human factors. She holds a Ph.D. in Human Factors Psychology from the University of South Dakota. She has led numerous externally funded research projects for agencies including NHTSA, FHWA, NIH, NSF, and NASA, as well as industry partners such as Northrup Grumman, Toyota, and Lockheed Martin. Her recent work focuses on neurophysiological and behavioral methods to understand attention, workload, and trust in drivers interacting with Level 2 and 3 automation and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS).
Program Vice Chair - Asma Tabassum, Wright State University, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University
Asma Tabassum holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from Oklahoma State University and is an aerospace researcher specializing in autonomous systems, control, and safety. She has conducted research on human–autonomy teaming and uncrewed aircraft compliance and currently teaches as an adjunct professor at Wright State University and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. Beyond her research and teaching, she actively supports academic and industry communities through mentoring, peer reviews, and outreach initiatives.
