Request from International Ergonomics Associate

  • 1.  Request from International Ergonomics Associate

    Posted 04-17-2025 10:11

    Colleagues,

We have an important request from our colleagues at the International Ergonomics Association (IEA), but it is a VERY quick turnaround (i.e., need a response by tomorrow).

If you fit the criteria, are interested, and have the time required, please send an email to skemp@hfes.org and camille.peres@ibt-triad.com with the requested bio and a resume/CV by the end of the day Friday, April 18th.

We will forward nominations from the group sent to us.

    Best,

    Camille

    Please see below:

The IEA would like to invite federated societies to nominate internationally recognised HFE experts to contribute to creating a draft document for the International Labour Organisation (ILO) on workplace ergonomics (due in October 2025). This document will form the basis for a shorter technical document outlining the important issues for an International Convention on Workplace Ergonomics (due in 2026). Nominations should be:

    - Internationally recognised HFE experts (please include a short bio of about half a page)

    - Represent different regions of the world with different workplace ergonomics issues

    - Have time to spend on drafting the document which is due to be submitted to the ILO by October 2025 (approximately 160 pages).

    - Some of the experts will be asked to draft the report while other experts will be asked to act as reviewers.

This will be the first time that the ILO will produce an international convention on ergonomics (a 1967 convention only looked at manual lifting tasks). This is therefore a highly important and globally significant process which has taken many years to come to fruition. From the IEA's perspective we would like to be as inclusive as possible, but we are also working on a very tight deadline. It is envisaged that the draft document will include the definition/s and scope of HFE in the workplace, the generic principles of HFE (e.g., the generic systems approach), technical fields of workplace ergonomics, technical methods of assessment, control measures and hierarchies, technical devices and tools, training requirements and competencies, certifications and professionalism, and be forward-thinking (i.e., be able to cope with new forms of work, traditional forms of work, and non-traditional forms of work).
