Seminar Title: Visual and Cognitive Demands of a Large Language Model-Powered In-Vehicle Conversational Agent
About the Talk: This talk will provide an overview of a recent study examining the effects of hands-free conversational AI on visual and cognitive load while driving. It focuses on driver engagement in multi-turn conversations with Google's Gemini and compares these interactions to other in-vehicle secondary tasks, including hands-free phone calls.
About the Speaker: Dr. Chris Monk is a Principal Scientist at Exponent, Inc., who focuses on driver inattention, ADAS and ADS human factors, in-vehicle human-machine interfaces, warnings and alerts, and driver behavior. He conducts driver behavior research for government and industry clients, as well as serves as an expert witness in various motor vehicle incident cases.
