Seminar Title: Slow Down, Move Over Laws: Investigating Factors Influencing Drivers' Behavior and Compliance
About the Talk: This talk will provide an overview of a recent study examining the cognitive and behavioral factors influencing driver compliance with "Slow Down, Move Over" (SDMO) laws. It focuses on the discrepancy between self-reported intentions and actual performance, contrasting objective observational data, derived from object detection and tracking software, with driver perceptions of risk and enforcement. The project outcome is a set of evidence-based recommendations to influence driver behavior.
About the Speaker: Amy Benedick, PMP, is a Principal Research Associate and the Director of the Human Factors Division at Westat, who focuses on traffic safety initiatives and road user behavior, including driver inattention, situational awareness, driver workload, in-vehicle displays and controls, and occupant protection.
