We are especially excited to welcome Dr. Ashley Hughes as our host. As one of the founders of HFE WOMAN, Dr. Hughes has been instrumental in building this community and fostering opportunities for connection, mentorship, and support among women in Human Factors. It is a privilege to have her lead this Coffee Break and continue the mission she helped establish.
Meet Our Host
Dr. Ashley Hughes is an Associate Professor with Tenure in the Department of MetroHealth at Case Western Reserve University’s School of Medicine and a Research Informaticist in the Center for Clinical Informatics Research and Education at the Population Health Research Institute in the MetroHealth System. She received her doctoral degree in Applied Experimental Human Factors Psychology in 2016 and her Master's in Modeling and Simulation in 2014 from the University of Central Florida. Her extramurally funded research uses human factors approaches to target improvements at point-of-care through clinical informatics and training effectiveness, with the end goal of improving care quality and patient safety. With more than 50 peer-reviewed journal publications, her body of research has been recognized for excellence by several national agencies, including the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society through the 2019 Bentzi Karsh Early Career Service and Outreach Award and the 2022 Robert L. Wears Early Career Award, as well as the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology.
She is particularly enthusiastic about hosting HFE WOMAN coffee hour as a chance to connect with Human Factors peers, colleagues, mentors, and mentees to informally network and discuss issues impacting Human Factors women.
