The XRTG is excited to highlight a summer camp that introduced students to extended reality technologies as well as principles of all HFES members! These students are the next generation of HFE and XR professionals, and we love to see summer camps that encourage students to think about human factors engineering and human-centered design!

On Wednesday, June 17, 2026, students in 7th, 8th, and 9th grade participated in the https://wise.umich.edu/k-12-families-educators/wise-gise/. During their visit to the Warden Lab, students completed a mixed-reality design activity focused on human factors engineering. In this activity, they applied principles of human-centered design to create a head-up display interface that could support an astronaut during extravehicular activity on the lunar surface. How fun! Thanks for sharing, Amelia Ward. I just realized you weren't mentioned in the post, and you deserve to be called out for this! This looks like it was a great opportunity for the students.

If other members have events, camps, or just interesting news to share, please contact myself and our Communications Director, Ahmad Albawaneh (aalba@uic.edu) so we can coordinate how to share across the XRTG social media platforms!
