    1. So, who are you?
    My name is Shi Cao (pronounced like SHER TSAO, he/him). I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Systems Design Engineering (SYDE), at University of Waterloo, Canada.

    2. How did you end up working on modeling?
    During high school, I was interested in both human and computers, so I studied psychology and human factors as well as programming during my undergraduate study. When I was a master student, I was introduced to ACT-R, and I loved it!

    3. What is the most challenging part in your modeling work?
    I like to pay attention to details, and there are so many details in human cognition and performance. For modelling methods such as ACT-R that focus on about 50 ms time scale with plausible cognitive mechanisms, it is most challenging to accurately capture the details and nuances that cause differences in human cognition and performance.

    4. Anything special HPMTGers should know about you?
    I am working on modelling pilot performance, so I need to know how to fly. I am currently a student pilot with about 50 hours of flight experience.

    5. What is your one modeling work/paper you want to share with the community?
    Our recent work has modelled pilot performance in checklist procedure and takeoff tasks.

    Our on-going work is improving the model and covering landing and circuit tasks as well.

    6. What is the study/tool/work in the field of human performance modeling you are most proud of? (can be your work or others' work)
    I really like Dario Salvucci's work of the ACT-R driving model.
