  • 1.  HFES ASTG Webinar Series - Dr. Gernot Konrad

    Posted 01-15-2025 11:42

    Hello members of the ASTG,

We are happy to announce the next "human factors in aerospace" webinar run by the ASTG.

Our next webinar will take place over Zoom on Monday, January 27th, 2025, at 2:30PM Pacific Time / 5:30PM Eastern Time. Our guest will be Dr. Gernot Konrad, the Chief Engineer for Human Factors at Honeywell Aerospace Technologies. Dr. Konrad has over 22 years of experience designing and certifying highly integrated flight decks, and at Honeywell he provides HF leadership and vision across multiple program platforms spanning current and future systems for the air transport, regional, business, general aviation, helicopter, and urban air mobility markets.

Here is a summary of the exciting topic he will be sharing with us:

This webinar offers an overview of the key factors influencing the design of modern civil flight decks, with a particular emphasis on the role of human factors practitioners. It will explore the capabilities and limitations of flight crews and flight deck systems, examining how these elements shape flight deck design. Additionally, participants will gain insights into the complex challenges surrounding certification and compliance demonstration. The discussion will highlight the diverse competencies required by flight deck human factors experts, which can be categorised into four essential domains: human factors, aeronautical engineering and flight operations, systems engineering, and certification. Furthermore, it will be highlighted that the aerospace industry is currently grappling with a shortage of skilled flight deck human factors practitioners, a situation exacerbated by an ageing workforce and an increased global demand for human factors practitioners. Compounding this issue, universities are not adequately preparing graduates for a seamless transition into flight deck human factors roles. In response to these challenges, the University of Kansas is now offering a specialised short course that is open to the public and is designed specifically to meet the needs of flight deck human factors practitioners.

As a reminder, all our webinars are livestreamed and the recordings are made available online. They also do not require an HFES or ASTG membership to view. Please access the link below to join the webinar:

Thank you for hosting this very interesting webinar! Questions could've been open a second longer if possible, but I suppose it's been good time keeping ;).

    Greetings

You can watch the webinar recording on our website https://hfes-aerospace.org/2025/01/17/webinar-competencies-for-hfe-aviation-by-dr-gernot-konrad/

I received emails from many members asking for the recording so I thought it would be easier to share it with everyone here. The discussion attracted a lot of attention.

    Thanks!
