Dear BIPOC community
We are excited to announce that the planning for our second round of HFES BIPOC Mentorship Circles is officially underway.
Our goal is to ensure that both mentee and mentor feel prepared to maximize their experience. To support this, we are hosting a series of preparatory events designed to foster early connections. These touchpoints will help mentees define their goals and provide mentors with insight into the needs of the community before we distribute our formal expertise and interest surveys.
With a focus on mentors, our first event will provide information about mentoring and what makes an effective mentor. Whether you are thinking of being a mentor, or even a mentee, this presentation will provide attendees an understanding of the mentoring relationship. A second presentation from the mentee perspective will be given later in May.
Please join us for our first event during the BIPOC monthly meeting:
Event: Getting Ready for Mentorship
Date: May 6, 2026
Time: 9:15 AM – 10:00 AM (PST)
About the Session:
Are you thinking about being a mentor but unsure of what this will look like? This presentation offers practical guidance for a successful partnership. We will address common questions such as "What makes a good mentor?" and "How do I find one?" The session also includes a self-reflection exercise to help you define what a meaningful mentorship relationship looks like for you.
We look forward to seeing you there!
Best regards,
Asha Dektor
