    Dear members,

Our next STTG Monthly Seminar will take place on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at 12:30 PM Eastern Time.

The featured speaker will be Dr. Yunmei Liu from University of Louisville.

Seminar Title: Human Responses in Mixed Traffic: Automation, Surrounding AV Behavior, and Internal States

About the Talk: As automated vehicles continue to advance, human-driven and automated vehicles are likely to coexist in mixed traffic for an extended period. This talk presents three studies on human responses in this evolving environment, including changes in situation awareness across different levels of automation, driver responses to aggressive behaviors of surrounding automated vehicles, and the role of cognitive workload and emotion in human performance. Together, these studies highlight the dynamic relationships among automation, surrounding traffic, and human internal states in mixed-traffic systems.

About the Speaker: Yunmei Liu, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at the University of Louisville and Director of the MINDxAI Lab. Her research uses experimental and data-driven approaches to understand human limitations and inform the design of safer and more effective human-centered AI and human-in-the-loop systems. Dr. Liu's research focuses on intelligent human-automation interaction, cognitive workload modeling, physiological computing, and human-centric AI. Across domains such as transportation, automation, rehabilitation, and interactive AI systems, her work aims to design intelligent technologies that better understand people, adapt to human needs, and support safer decision-making in complex real-world environments.
