    Dear STTG members,

    We are excited to launch a new STTG Monthly Seminar Series, taking place on the 3rd Thursday of each month at 12:30 PM Eastern Time.

    This series is designed to bring our community together to share cutting-edge research and developments, spark discussion, and connect around emerging topics in surface transportation.

    Each session will feature:

    • A 20–30-minute presentation from a featured speaker
    • Followed by an interactive discussion with attendees

    Our inaugural speaker will be Dr. Charlie Klauer from the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute (VTTI).

    Date and Time: Thursday, April 23, 2026, at 12:30pm ET

    Seminar Title: Evolving Driver Distraction: More or less risk?

    About the Speaker: Dr. Sheila "Charlie" Klauer is a research scientist and the leader for the Applied Driver Assessment, Performance, and Training Group at VTTI. She is also an Associate Professor in the Industrial and Systems Engineering Department at Virginia Tech. Dr. Klauer recently authored papers that have been published in the New England Journal of Medicine, Journal of Pediatrics, and Journal of the American Medical Association Pediatrics. Her primary research involves studying the effects of distraction and fatigue on driving, especially on novice drivers.
