The EXTENDED REALITY TECHNICAL GROUP is concerned with human factors issues associated with human-virtual environment interaction. These issues include maximizing human performance efficiency in virtual environments, ensuring health and safety, and circumventing potential social problems through proactive assessment. For VE/VR systems to be effective and well received by their users, researchers need to focus significant efforts on addressing human factors issues.     Hello to the XRTG and HFES Community,

    The Annual Conference is right around the corner and we are excited to see everyone in Washington, DC next week!! We have an exciting program across the week with lecture sessions, posters, panels, and our hands-on XR Showcase. As the event rapidly approaches, we have three news items to account for: (1) 2023 Election Results; (2) Business Meeting Information; and (3) HFES Annual Meeting XRTG/TTG Social. For more details on each of these items, please check out our latest Newsletter hosted on the XRTG HFES Connect Page.

    1. Election Results

    We held our annual elections during the month of September and the results are in. We would like to thank everyone who was nominated across each position. We were humbled by the quality of candidates this year, and it highlights the direction our Technical Group will go in the future. If you're interested in learning how to get more involved, attend the upcoming business meeting (Details Listed Below). Here is a list of the individuals who received the most votes across each position:

    • Program Chair-Elect: Dr. Randall Spain
    • Newsletter Editor: Dr. Lillian Garza
    • Secretary: Dr. Ziho Kang
    • Webmaster: This position is still open!!! If you're interested, please reach out to any of the XRTG officers

    2. Business Meeting Information

    We will hold our annual XRTG Business Meeting at the Annual Conference. Please join us on Wednesday 10/25 3:30 - 5:00 PM. Our meeting will be held in the Cabinet Room on the Concourse Level of the conference hotel! We will send out a link for virtual participation. Keep an eye out over the next few days for another HFES Connect post with those details.

    3. A Social w/ the Extended Reality and Training Technical Groups!!

    Come on out to the XRTG/TTG Social Hour at the at the Mission Dupont!

    We are hosting a joint social with the Training TG at Mission Dupont (1606 20th St NW Washington, DC 20009), which is only an 8-10 min walk from the conference
    hotel. We will have free appetizers and drink tickets while they last, so come early and don't miss out!

    We will see in DC!!
