    Hi OETG members, 

    You should have received an email from HFES (info@hfes.org via Survey Monkey) with the ballot for the TG Chair-Elect, TG Program Chair-Elect, and Newsletter Editor-Elect positions. Cast your vote by 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 24th, 2023. 

    Here are the candidates for each position: 

    TG Chair-Elect

    Jay Kim, Associate Professor, Oregon State University

    Dr. Jay Kim is an Associate Professor of Environmental and Occupational Health in the College of Health at Oregon State University (OSU). Dr. Kim received his M.S. in Industrial and Systems Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2007 and Ph.D. in Industrial and Systems Engineering from the University of Washington in 2012. Before joining the OSU's faculty in 2015, Dr. Kim was an Assistant Professor of Industrial and Systems Engineering at the Northern Illinois University for two years (2013-2015) and a research scientist at the University of Washington (2012-2012). His primary research and training expertise is in the areas of occupational ergonomics and biomechanics. As the PI, Co-PI, and Co-investigator, Dr. Kim has been leading various funded research projects (Total: $12M) to reduce physical risk factors and associated injuries in various industries including commercial fishing, mining, transportation, agriculture, forestry, construction, and health care.

    Leia Stirling, Associate Professor, University of Michigan 

    Dr. Leia Stirling is an Associate Professor in Industrial and Operations Engineering and Robotics at the University of Michigan, a Core Faculty in the Center for Ergonomics, an Affiliate Faculty in the Space Institute, and the University of Michigan Center for Occupational Health and Safety Engineering (COHSE) Director of Occupational Safety Engineering and Ergonomics. In her interdisciplinary research group, they bring together methods from human factors, biomechanics, and robotics. They strive to understand the physical and cognitive interactions for goal-oriented human task performance and support operational decision making that relies on manual task performance. These goals include reducing musculoskeletal injury risks, supporting telehealth, and improving technology usability. 

    TG Program Chair-Elect

    Denny Yu, Associate Professor, Purdue University 

    Dr. Denny Yu is currently an Associate Professor of Industrial Engineering at Purdue University. He is also a Summer Faculty Fellow at the Air Force Research Laboratory's 711th Human Performance Wing and a Fulbright Scholar. He is a Certified Professional Ergonomist (CPE) and serves on the Board of Directors for the Board of Certification of Professional Ergonomics (BCPE) and the IISE Work Systems Board. Research from Dr Yu's group has been recognized by NIOSH Bullard-Sherwood Award (honorable mention), the American Society of Safety Engineers Safety Research Fellow, the National Safety Council Rising Stars of Safety,  the RSJ/KROS Distinguished Interdisciplinary Research Award (RO-MAN 2021), and the 2021 Human Factors Prize (by the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society). Recently, he has served as program chair for PDTG (2022) and led the Human Factors and Ergonomics Track for IISE Annual Meeting (2023).

    Newsletter Editor-Elect 

    Jessica Avilés, Assistant Professor, Clemson University 

    Dr. Jessica Avilés is an assistant professor in the Industrial Engineering Department at Clemson University. Prior to her current position, Dr. Avilés was a National Science Foundation (NSF) eFellows Postdoctoral fellow at Clemson University. She earned a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from Virginia Tech, and an M.S. in Biomedical Engineering from Texas A&M University. Dr. Avilés specializes in understanding and enhancing mobility among individuals with a broad range of physical capabilities. Her previous research has focused on (1) fall prevention training using reactive exercise techniques, (2) understanding gait on complex terrains such as uneven terrain in outdoor settings, and (3) the effects of passive exoskeleton devices on balance and gait. Currently, Dr. Avilés is investigating balance training techniques for workers as well as the effects of assistive devices on mobility.
