After a brief hiatus, we are happy to announce the next "human factors in aerospace" webinar run by the ASTG. 

Our next webinar will take place over Zoom on Thursday, May 22nd, 2025, at 8AM Pacific Time / 11AM Eastern Time. Our guest will be Dr. Chris Wickens from Colorado State University. 

The webinar will be titled "HUDs and HMDs and Attention: When AR meets AI". Here is a summary of the exciting topic he will be sharing with us:

Early Concerns about HUDs involved the focus of attention on low visibility unexpected hazards in the forward field of view. These concerns were well founded. But this attention tunneling also occurred with highly realistic head down displays. We then extend this research to the use of HMDs in safety critical environments, in particular for hazard attention cuing. The AI of machine learning is necessary to do this and the realism of augmented reality (AR) may trigger the automation bias when the AI is imperfect.
