- Design of interactive systems at any scale-including emerging technologies, embedded Artificial Intelligence, adaptive interfaces, hybrid (bio-cyber-physical) design, etc.
- Design and human wellbeing- how human beings interact with environments, from wearables and smart things, to furniture, buildings, and neighborhoods.
Qualifications
The new faculty member will be expected to develop an externally funded research program of international distinction with a deep, impactful record of research publications and teaching excellence. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, advising B.S., M.A., M.S., and Ph.D. students, and providing service to the department and university community. These connections support the department's aims to design for real-world challenges and opportunities and advance understanding of how people and their environments interact and are enabled, supported, and augmented by design. HCD offers B.S. degrees in Design + Environmental Analysis, Fashion Design & Management, and Fiber Science. Master's and Ph.D. degrees are offered under the graduate fields of Design + Environmental Analysis and Fiber Science & Apparel Design, with design foci in Interaction, Emerging Technology, Health, Sustainability, and Human Behavior & Design.
