Dear TG members.  A two more questions for you.  Note: I plan to present the results of the survey next week.  In addition, I have planned our first webinar for mid July. It's going to be great. Details to come (and related question below).
Feel free to respond in the thread or email me directly (800usability@gmail.com)
    Tony

    1) For July's webinar, what is the best time of day to hold a 60-90 minute event? (please specify time zone in your answer).

    2) We have a healthy balance of $18k in our account. Seems like we collect dues, but don't spend!  What do you feel are the best ways to spend some of this money each year?  (guest speakers at annual meeting (lawyers, judges, etc.), award, research grants, ??, food/drink at annual meeting?)

    thanks
    Tony Andre

    Hi Tony,

Best time for me for a 60-90 min FPTG meeting is the afternoons ET.

All of the ideas listed for spending seem worthwhile – no particular preference.

    Tony,

I think grants and workshops/guest speakers (lawyers, accident investigators, judges) would both be a great way to spend some of the funds. Not sure how many students are in this group, though...

    Good point about the grants.

I think we will use some funds for a guest speaker or two in 2023 in Washington DC, working with David Blake our new program chair (we will later take suggestions) as well as food/drink at a business/social meeting that same year.

For this year, the program is already set and I will hold a business meeting via Zoom in September, prior to the Annual Meeting (which I can not attend this year).

During the year, we will hold webinars and maybe even a one day summit, along with development of a digital newsletter.

Sounds like a nice variety of events, Tony. It would be great if the guest speakers, webinars, and summit can be streamed over Zoom for broad reach.

Thanks everyone for your responses; these are great ideas.
-We will use some funds for guest speakers outside of our domain and for some food/beverages when we meet.
-we will definitely also put resources into streaming in-person events. that seems to be a common theme and makes sense.

By the way, I apologize for my (intended to be light-hearted) comment in my initial post that "we take in dues but don't seem to spend them."  Our balance is, of course, due to the fact that the COVID pandemic resulted in cancelled annual meetings for 2-3 years and thus there were no opportunities for the previous leadership to spend our funds.

We are still seeking some volunteers for this TG.  If you are interested in helping us this next year, please contact me.
