    Dear HART TG members,
Our monthly TG member conversations are on the last Tuesday of each month at 12 pm ET. This is a great learning and networking opportunity in HART TG.

Our February event will be on Tue, February 28th, at 12 pm ET. The topic of the lightning talk will be Responsible Human Control of AI Systems. Our guest speaker is Dr. Christopher Miller.

Dr. Christopher Miller has a degree from the Psychology Department at the University of Chicago's Committee on Cognition and Communication.  In his early career, Dr. Miller led a series of adaptive information management and human task modeling projects at the Honeywell Technology Center over a period of 11 years. He was the principal investigator for Honeywell's role in the U.S. Air Force's Pilot's Associate program and the U.S. Army's Rotorcraft Pilot's Associate ACTD program developing and implementing adaptive information management systems to coordinate information presentation and task flow between pilots and advanced automation systems. This later project won the Vertical Flight Society's Grover E. Bell award for rotorcraft innovation.  Dr. Miller also won Honeywell's highest technical achievement award for his work in designing the inter-module and human communications aspects of the Abnormal Event Guidance and Information System-an adaptive automation system for use in oil refineries. Dr. Miller was one of the co-creators of the Playbook concept, has been involved in all phases of its development to date, and has been its principal advocate in design and publication for over 20 years.  He has led projects and workshops on Playbook design for all branches of the DoD research laboratories, as well as for defense researchers from Britain, Canada, Australia and multiple NATO countries.  In 2001, Dr. Miller left Honeywell to take co-ownership of Smart Information Flow Technologies (SIFT), a small business providing consulting research in human and automation/computer technologies.  While at SIFT, Dr. Miller has led major efforts on Playbook development and has provided R&D services on the design of adaptive and adaptable automation for cockpit design, unmanned vehicle control concepts, autonomy support for deep space missions and evaluation techniques for the same to name just a few fields. Dr. Miller is the author of over 140 publications on these topics. He has served as chair of 15 conference sessions or symposia and has given invited addresses to NATO RTO advisory boards, the Air Force Scientific Advisory Board and the National Academy of Sciences.

A rough agenda is about 10 min lightning talk, followed by Q&A and guided discussions in a big group. (That's right, we will try the big group approach rather than the small group approach this year.)
