    Dear HFES and XRTG Members,

    Please join me in congratulating our new TG Vice Chair, Dr. Stephanie G. Fussell, and our new Program Vice Chair, Dr. Hyungil Kim. You can find more information about the newly elected officers below:

    TG Vice Chair: Dr. Stephanie G. Fussell is a Scientist with Aptima's Training, Learning, and Readiness (TLR) division, working primarily with the Air Force Research Laboratory's Gaming Research Integration for Learning Laboratory (GRILL®). A proponent of using extended reality (XR) efficiently and effectively, Dr. Fussell's research concentrates on ensuring training competency, enhancing usability, meeting user experience requirements, and demonstrating transfer of training. Dr. Fussell has given lectures and spoken on numerous panels about the benefits of using XR in aviation and aerospace training and has thrice been awarded an AFRL Summer Faculty Fellowship with the 711th Human Performance Wing, Airman Systems Directorate, Warfighter Interactions & Readiness Division (SF.15.12.B0913). She serves as the Technical Vice Chair for the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society Extended Reality Technical Group, as a reviewer on the Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation, and Education Conference (I/ITSEC) Human Performance Analysis and Engineering (HPAE) Subcommittee, and peer reviews for multiple journals. As a former assistant professor, Dr. Fussell has experience with how research in different environments impacts the adoption, use, and understanding of XR in training environments. Dr. Fussell has a PhD in Aviation, an MS and BS in Aeronautics, and an MEd in Educational Technology.

    Program Vice Chair: Hyungil Kim (hyungil@uic.edu) is an Assistant Professor of Industrial Engineering at the University of Illinois Chicago. He is currently leading the Human-Centered Engineering lab (https://sites.google.com/view/human-centered-engineering) where his team explores new methods for the requirements analysis, design, prototyping, and evaluation of extended reality applications with an emphasis on human-technology partnerships at future workplaces. Dr. Kim received a Ph.D. in industrial and systems engineering specializing in human factors and ergonomics from Virginia Tech. He has more than 10 years of research experience in extended reality and has published over 30 papers in top conferences and journals such as ASPIRE, IEEE Virtual Reality, IEEE International Symposium on Mixed and Augmented Reality, IEEE Transactions on Visualization & Computer Graphics, and Human Factors. He has been actively serving the above research communities as a conference and workshop organizer. He has been a member of HFES since 2014 and an officer of the extended reality technical group (XRTG) since 2023. He previously served XRTG as the Treasurer, and in 2025, he was elected as the Program Vice Chair.
