The EXTENDED REALITY TECHNICAL GROUP is concerned with human factors issues associated with human-virtual environment interaction. These issues include maximizing human performance efficiency in virtual environments, ensuring health and safety, and circumventing potential social problems through proactive assessment. For VE/VR systems to be effective and well received by their users, researchers need to focus significant efforts on addressing human factors issues. Do you have an VR/AR/MR application that you want to show at this year's HFES meeting? If so, then this is the event for you!

Submit your interest no later than Friday February 17, 2023 – Read more below!

Building on the success of the previous "Me and My VE" series, we're excited to announce another interactive session for virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR) and mixed reality (MR) applications.

The new session titled "Extended Reality (XR) Showcase" will provide a forum for HF practitioners and professionals to showcase state-of-the-art extended reality (XR) applications.

Submit Your Demonstration Description! We're looking for eight (8) to ten (10) *interactive* demonstrations to support the event.

Overview of the session: This event will be an alternative format session (rather than a traditional lecture). It will begin with each presenter briefly introducing (<2 mins) their application. Once this lightning round of introductions is finished, audience members will be free to move around the room and interact with all the demonstrations. It's much like an interactive poster session, but with XR applications! Last year's session included demonstrations from academia, industry, and government. It was a very popular session!

If you're interested in participating in this showcase, please send an email stating your interest and a brief written description of the XR application you would like to demonstrate as an attachment to randall.d.spain.civ@army.mil by Friday February 17, 2023.

Your description should include the following:

    • 2 to 3 paragraphs describing the application you plan to demonstrate and how it relates to HF research (e.g., training and education, test and validation practices, design and planning exercises, and human factors-oriented research studies, etc.).

    • Several sentences describing the equipment you plan to bring to support the demonstration (Video/Audio/Computing requirements to support your demonstration).

    • A picture of the environment or application.

    • 1 to 2 sentences describing cleaning and sanitation plans for participants during the demo.

The session organizers will use this information to submit a proposal to this year's conference. The proposal will include a description of the goals of the session, a summary of each demonstration, and a conclusion. If accepted, the submission (with your name included as an author) will be published in the proceedings.

Please share your demo description no later than Friday February 17, 2023 (the sooner you share your description the better). We plan to have the final submission ready by February 17th to give appropriate time to make final edits and share the proposal with contributors.

If you have any questions, or want to talk about the event, please contact Randall Spain (randall.d.spain.civ@army.mil) or the other session organizers listed below.

    Thanks!
