Quick reminder - the Business Meeting for the Environmental Design TG is today, Oct. 12, from 12:30-1:30pm in Room L405/406 in conjunction with the Children's Issues TG meeting.
Our meeting will include a few business items and a very exciting keynote presentation by Dr. Nora Colman, MD, who is an Atlanta-based expert in pediatric patient-safety focused simulation and simulation-based hospital design testing. We will have complimentary snacks (cheeses, fruits) and refreshments. All meeting attendees are welcome to join.
Note - our meeting is in the same room as the Environmental Design ED-1 Technical Session that starts at 1:30pm.

The business portion of the meeting will be brief (~10mins) as we have a very exciting keynote presentation scheduled for the remainder of the hour by Dr. Nora Colman, MD, who is an Atlanta-based expert in pediatric patient-safety focused simulation and simulation-based hospital design testing. Since our meeting is around lunch time, we will be providing complimentary snacks (cheeses, fruits) and refreshments.
When: Wednesday, October 12, 2022, 12:30pm EST, keynote start time 12:40pm
Where: Room L405/L406. We will be in the same room as the ED-1 session that starts 1:30pm. So please look for EDTG+CITG Business Meeting in your conference program/app.

Keynote Title: Pediatric Healthcare Spaces - Where Environmental and User-Centered Design Intersect with Patient Safety
Summary: Healthcare is a complex system where dynamic and unpredictable interactions of system components contribute to errors. In the design of healthcare facilities, there is a need to increase levels of safety evaluation throughout all phases of hospital development as a means to manage risk. Simulation effectively represents the dynamics of care delivery in order to identify and remediate latent conditions in the built environment or work system prior to patient exposure. Simulation-based Hospital Design Testing (SbHDT) has been used to proactively identify latent conditions related to the built environment, work system, and care processes. Incorporation of simulation into the hospital development process places safety at the forefront of planning. By proactively identifying architectural or system weaknesses, corrective actions can be taken before harm occurs. This presentation will discuss specific considerations in pediatrics that impact care delivery and design and will highlight how the intersection of safety, human factors, user-centered design can be applied to enhance safety evaluation during the design development process.
All HFES 2022 Annual Meeting attendees are welcome to join us! So please invite your colleagues/friends from other TG's.
I have also attached a flyer that you may use to invite non-attendees/non-members/colleagues who may be interested in catching the keynote presentation on Zoom.
I look forward to seeing all of you in Atlanta next week! As always, please send me a direct message or email (clive.dsouza@pitt.edu) if you have feedback, ideas or suggestions for the group.
Sincerely,
