  • 1.  Call for Proposals: Best Student Research Proposal

    Posted 07-18-2022 13:42

    Hi,

The Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (HFES) Training Technical Group (TTG) is issuing a call for entries to its annual Best Student Research Proposal.  The winner of the award receives $750 to defray the costs of the research (e.g., materials or equipment, research participant payments) and attending next year's HFES Annual Meeting.  The winner is asked to report on the winning research project at next year's TTG business meeting (i.e., the 2023 meeting).

To compete for the award, students should submit a proposal of interest to the TTG that includes the following:

    1.       Cover letter (Include name, current mailing and email addresses, names of others involved in the project, and university affiliation).

    2.       A proposal narrative that explains the basis of the research, the questions that will be explored, and the methods that will be used to gather and analyze the data.  The narrative should clarify the gap in the literature that the research will fill and how it will do so.

    a.       No longer than 3 pages, double-spaced

    3.       A budget that illustrates how the award will be used to support the research.  Award funds can be used for two purposes.  First, the funds can be used to directly defray the cost of the research (e.g., material or recruitment costs).  Second, the funds can be used to defray the costs of attending the 2022 HFES annual meeting.  At that meeting, the winner will have the opportunity to provide the TTG with an update on the supported research.

    a.       No longer than 1 pages, double-spaced

    4.       A signed and scanned letter of support from the individual who will be supervising the research.  The letter should indicate the supervisors confidence that the research plan is sound and that the student is capable of executing it.

If you would like to apply for the Best Student Research Proposal award, please send your complete application package (cover letter, narrative, budget, and letter of support) to Jim McCarthy (mccarthy@sonalysts.com) no later than Friday August 19th

If you are a student member, please consider submitting a proposal.  If you are a non-student member please mention this Request for Proposal (RFP) to any HFES student members you know or students you are mentoring.

    All the best,

    Jim McCarthy

    Hi Everyone!

There was a typo in item #3 below.  The reference to the 2022 Annual Meeting should instead have said 2023.  There is the revised information:

    3.       A budget that illustrates how the award will be used to support the research.  Award funds can be used for two purposes.  First, the funds can be used to directly defray the cost of the research (e.g., material or recruitment costs).  Second, the funds can be used to defray the costs of attending the 2023 HFES annual meeting.  At that meeting, the winner will have the opportunity to provide the TTG with an update on the supported research.

    a.       No longer than 1 pages, double-spaced

I apologize for the error and hope to receive your application.

    Jim
