    Description

The Department of Industrial Engineering invites applications for an associate/full professor, as part of a strategic hiring initiative in Human Factors and Ergonomics (HFE), with a focus on healthcare applications. This position is designed to provide strategic leadership and growth in Clemson's capacity in human factors for enhancing clinical operations and patient safety at Prisma Health, and further develop health-related human factors research collaborations across South Carolina. The ideal candidate will be an established national leader in HFE, that can lead and strengthen a partnership with the Health Sciences Center at Prisma Health. This strategic collaborative between Clemson University and Prisma Health aims to advance pioneering research and application of HFE principles to improve the processes and experience of giving and receiving care, and to improve patient and provider safety, health, and wellness outcomes. Areas of research interest include, but are not limited to, the following:
    • Usability, human-centered design, and ergonomics improvements of healthcare technologies such as medical imaging devices, surgical robotics, patient monitors, electronic medical records, or other patient care/delivery devices.
    • Workplace-interventions addressing worker physical/cognitive performance, health and/or safety.
    • Applications of human systems engineering principles for developing targeted process improvement initiatives.
    • Teamwork, Training, and multiteam systems, particularly inter-professional healthcare teamwork and collaboration (increasing productivity and minimizing information loss in patient handoffs)

The faculty member will be hired at Clemson and closely affiliated with the Health Sciences Center of Prisma Health. A joint appointment in other academic units is also possible. The Clemson University School of Health Research is a strategic point of facilitation for faculty engaged in health-related research across Clemson to connect with clinical collaborators.
