The human-centered engineering lab at UIC invites applications for a fully funded PhD student position in the Industrial Engineering program to facilitate human-technology partnerships at future workplaces through the convergence of extended reality (XR) and artificial intelligence (AI).
* Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in industrial engineering, data science, information science, computer science, or a closely related field
- Strong programming skills (e.g., C++, C#, or Python)
- Enthusiasm for industrial applications of XR (virtual, augmented, and mixed reality) as well as human-centered computing and engineering
- Visit the HCE lab website (https://sites.google.com/view/human-centered-engineering) and describe in your cover letter which project or publication interests you the most and why
* Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in human-computer interaction or closedly related field described above
- Previous coursework or research experience in related areas: virtual reality, augmented reality, artificial intelligence, machine learning, computer vision, game development, design of experiments, human factors engineering, and/or human-computer interaction
- Experience in XR development (e.g., Unity 3D, Unreal) with head-worn displays (e.g., MS HoloLens, HTC Vive, Meta Quest)
- Experience in human-subject experiments and publications
