HFES Student Chapters

Hello everybody,

I am moving my research program (http://fhsl.eng.buffalo.edu/) to the University of Virginia (in the department of Engineering Systems and Environment) in January. I have multiple, funded research positions for qualified, motivated MS and PhD students starting in January or afterwards. Research in my laboratory has a strong focus on human performance modeling, especially as it relates to emerging automation and autonomy in aerospace, healthcare, and systems safety. Over the course of my research program, I have successfully graduated seven PhD students who have gotten positions in academia, private industry, and government. My students have also regularly won best paper and poster awards at local, national, and international events.

Enrollment at UVA in the Engineering Systems and Environment department will allow you to get a comprehensive education in Human Factors, while giving you a valuable systems perspective on engineering and societal problems. UVA is a flagship public university with a growing engineering program that is an ideal location for conducting multidisciplinary, societally-impactful research (I got my PhD there). The University is located in Charlottesville Virginia, which is a beautiful college town located in the Blue Ridge Mountains. With its thriving art, music, and outdoor recreation scenes, modest cost of living, and easy access to the Northeastern Corridor, Charlottesville is consistently ranked as one of the best cities in the US.
