The EXTENDED REALITY TECHNICAL GROUP is concerned with human factors issues associated with human-virtual environment interaction. These issues include maximizing human performance efficiency in virtual environments, ensuring health and safety, and circumventing potential social problems through proactive assessment. For VE/VR systems to be effective and well received by their users, researchers need to focus significant efforts on addressing human factors issues. Field Study: Utilizing Extended Reality In Training Systems

Hello HFES Training & Virtual Environments Groups,

I am recruiting participants for my dissertation research at the University of Louisville investigating the use of extended reality (XR) technologies in law enforcement officer (LEO) training, which may improve the training outcomes of individual LEOs as well as the overall training system. Through this research study, I intend to identify barriers and facilitators of XR technology use at various organizations (not just LEO training facilities). I also intend to investigate what training needs and requirements exist at LEO training facilities. If you are interested in participating, please contact me (jacob.read@louisville.edu), or Dr. Jason J. Saleem, the study P.I. (jason.saleem@louisville.edu). If you know someone who may be interested in participating, please forward this information to them.

Note: You do NOT need to be from a LEO training facility to participate in this study. Participants should meet at least one of the following criteria:

    • A member of an organization that is actively using XR in some capacity, whether it be for training, product design, robotic remote control, etc.
    • A member of an organization that provides XR-related services to other organizations, such as implementation and support of XR-based systems.
    • A member of a LEO training facility, regardless of whether they use XR in their training systems.

    Thanks for your consideration,
