The EXTENDED REALITY TECHNICAL GROUP is concerned with human factors issues associated with human-virtual environment interaction. These issues include maximizing human performance efficiency in virtual environments, ensuring health and safety, and circumventing potential social problems through proactive assessment. For VE/VR systems to be effective and well received by their users, researchers need to focus significant efforts on addressing human factors issues.     Funded doctoral Student Positions at Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas, USA

    The Department of Environmental and Occupational Health (EOH) at Texas A&M University (TAMU) is looking for highly motivated students to pursue a doctoral degree in Occupational Health with a specialization in Human Factors, Ergonomics, and Safety Engineering. Two students are being recruited to work on two NSF grants:

    • Development of an Adaptive Procedural System for high-risk, high-consequence industries
    • Development of an Alternative Displays for Underground Utility Excavation.

    EOH also has NIOSH funded doctoral positions for those interested in working on research in the following topic areas:

    • Digitalization of procedures
    • Human Factors in Process Safety
    • Human Robotic Interaction with disaster robotics
    • Procedure adherence in high-risk industrial settings
    • Ergonomic data analytics
    • Basic ergonomics
    • Human performance tracking with sensors
    • Integration of sensors with the internet of you
    • Sedentary behavior

    These positions are fully funded covering tuition and competitive monthly stipends. The expected start date is August 2022.

    Position requirements:

    1. A Master's degree in Psychology, Industrial Engineering, Public Health, or a closely related discipline.
    2. Basic knowledge and experience in Human Factors and Ergonomics research.
    3. Good oral and written communication skills in English
    4. Meeting the requirements to be admitted to the TAMU SPH graduate program: https://public-health.tamu.edu/degrees/drph.html

    TAMU is a Tier 1 research university with a total enrollment of over 60,000 students. The Texas A&M EOH Department (https://public-health.tamu.edu/departments/eoh/index.html) has a NIOSH Training Grant along with multiple industry and federally funded studies. There are several possible funding mechanisms for doctoral (and some master's) students, including graduate research assistantships and teaching assistantships.
