    Description

    The University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania is seeking applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher.

    **This position is contingent on pending grant funding from the National Institutes of Health.**

    The goals of the 5-year (2020-2024) multicenter research study are to:

    1) Ascertain determinants of operating room (OR) to intensive care unit (ICU) handoff protocol adoption and use in 12 adult and pediatric ICUs in five health systems,
    2) Adapt OR to ICU handoff protocols using engineering approaches and select tailored implementation strategies,
    3) Test the effectiveness of tailored, multifaceted, multilevel implementation strategies, and
    4) Design and create a digital toolkit for other ICUs to identify implementation determinants, customize an OR-to-ICU handoff protocol, and select appropriate implementation strategies.

    The applicant will be responsible for: a) data collection in clinical and virtual settings, b) qualitative data analysis, c) quantitative data analysis (with assistance of a faculty biostatistician) d) requirement specification of digital toolkit, e) drafting of manuscripts, and f) management of study logistics including organization, administration, data collection, and oversight of research assistants. Data collection will be shared between sites, but the Postdoctoral Researcher will be responsible for onsite data collection at the University of Pennsylvania location. Travel to collaborating sites may be necessary; travel-related costs will be reimbursed.

    Qualifications

    The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in implementation science, human factors, systems engineering, information science, psychology, sociology, organizational management, or a related area. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in qualitative methods (including focus groups, observation, interview) as well as experience or interest in thematic coding. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in participatory design and/or stakeholder-engaged research. The ideal candidate will have experience in the development of requirement specifications and design of decision support tools. All applicants should demonstrate technical skills in statistics, strong writing ability, and excellent oral and written communication skills.

     

    My adjunct faculty position will allow me to have post doctoral researcher advising privileges at the University of Pennsylvania's Perelman School of Medicine Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care.  Thus the recruited post doc will be co-mentored by the two of us.
