Dear Black, Indigenous, People of Color Affinity Group,

I am excited to let you know that we have a faculty opening in the Department of Psychological Sciences at Rice University to begin July 1, 2022.

We are inviting applications for a tenure-track assistant professor in the area of Human Factors, defined broadly to include Human-Computer Interaction, Engineering Psychology, Applied Experimental Psychology, and Human Systems Integration.

I am writing to ask for your help in finding suitable applicants by sharing our job announcement (attached) widely to doctoral students, postdocs, and alumni who may be interested in the position.

The successful candidate will join highly collegial and productive faculty in the Human Factors/Human Computer Interaction (HF/HCI) program-- Mike Byrne, Pat DeLucia, Phil Kortum, and Ed Salas, who conduct research in a wide range of areas including HCI, usability, driving, health care, voting systems, visual performance, team science, and computational modeling. Our program is fully accredited by HFES and recruits top notch graduate students who go on to have highly successful careers.

Our department also trains students in cognitive and affective neuroscience; health psychology; and industrial/organizational psychology. The department nurtures research and scholarship, and there are many opportunities for collaboration within the department, across the university, and with the adjacent Texas Medical Center.

Rice University is a private research university located in Houston, Texas, which has been characterized as the most diverse city in America. Rice consistently ranks among the top 20 national universities and the top 10 in undergraduate teaching (US News & World Report).

Enclosed is a copy of our job announcement. Please help us identify candidates for this position. We especially seek applicants from individuals who have been historically underrepresented in academia.

    Thank you.
