Dear HART TG members,
Our September TG member conversations will have Dr. Laura Steckman, from the Air Force Office of Scientific Research's (AFOSR) Trust and Influence program, as our guest speaker. The topic of her lightning talk is "The future of trust research". We will have Q&A and small group discussions after the lightning talk.
Dr. Laura Steckman is the Program Officer for the Air Force Office of Scientific Research's (AFOSR) Trust & Influence program. The program's trust emphasis funds basic research advancing the science of trust in human-machine teaming, human-agent interaction, and autonomy. The influence emphasis focuses on basic research related to social influence, including how it transcends online and offline networks to affect behavior and how influence occurs through multi-vector informational influence campaigns. She also coordinates AFOSR's involvement in the Office of the Secretary of Defense's Minerva Defense Research Institute program, the Department of Defense's (DoD) premiere basic social science research program, which currently includes multiple multidisciplinary projects focused on autonomy and ethics.
Dr. Steckman has supported numerous DoD and other US government agencies throughout her career, primarily conducting research for and translating social and behavioral sciences into operations and technology development. Prior to joining AFOSR, Dr. Steckman was at MITRE, where she worked with DoD, Intelligence Community, and interagency organizations. She has also worked as the Command Social Scientist at the Marine Corps Information Operations Center and at US Indo-Pacific Command and US Central Command.
