Hello everyone! I wanted to reach out and encourage all of you to submit your work to the CEDM Technical Group for this year's HFES Annual Meeting, which will be in Atlanta, GA. The submission deadline is February 16th, 2022 (16 days away!). You all know the drill - we want all high-quality work, but wanted you to know that we are aiming to focus in the following areas. Again, if in doubt, submit your work!
We also are planning to start a monthly or bi-monthly webinar series, and plan to start focusing on these topics. If there are other topics you want to see covered, or want to present, please contact me at rayo.3@osu.edu.
- Macrocognition. This is foundational to CEDM: Specific question for this year: how are we designing for and evaluating performance relative to cognitive function across multiple agents?
- Coordination. Also foundational. We welcome submissions at all system scales, including Human-machine Teaming and Team Coordination, and would love to hear more about Organizational scale, including how organizational pressures and beliefs shape front-line work.
- Design strategies and patterns. I have heard repeatedly that we are craving presentations and papers on generalizable design patterns backed up by empirical evidence of real designs in real settings. And I do, too! The more uncertainty, complexity, and high-stakes in the real setting, the better! But again, the design patterns and strategies utilized are more important than the design success or failure itself. Also, we're interested in the interplay of Microcognition and Macrocognition considerations in our designs.
- Societal-Scale Systems. This is pretty new to Human Factors, and we want to see a lot more of it in CEDM. This is where CEDM either has or can inform community or societal-scale solutions. This includes notions of diversity, equity, misinformation, participation, public policy, and many more!
Thanks, all!
